October 2006
YWAM Victoria,
I am writing this letter to express my gratitude to the team of youth
from Colorado that came with your organization this summer. I took a
position as a youth worker for the Pacheedaht First Nations community
at the beginning of June.
The first task involved meetings and outlining goals for the summer
program. The second task entailed attempting to clean out and organize
the youth centre, which was in rough shape. Here is where the support
from the team was invaluable. We began by cleaning out the centre and
bringing cupboards and furniture in to create a space that appeared
comfortable. This was a three-day job, as the building hasn’t
been taken care of over the years.
Once this task was complete the team helped to mount a canoe onto one
of the trailers so that the children and youth from this community
could decorate a float to be entered into the Canada Day celebration
and contest. All of us had a wonderful day and those who participated
in the creation of the float commented on how much fun they had.
Not only did they provide valuable physical support when needed; they
were also so patient and understanding with the children and youth of
this community. I was thoroughly impressed by their dedication to be of
service to others without judgement.
I will close with a simple thank-you and I look forward to meeting more
of the YWAM teams as my contract has been extended.
Sincerely,
Stacey Dougall,
Youth Worker,
Pacheedaht First Nation.
